About

What We Do

We make spaces better—more accessible, more understandable, more legible, and more usable. In doing so, we carefully examine each initial situation to find a creative solution to the underlying problems. When we say “spaces,” we mean built spaces: open spaces, discursive spaces, and social spaces. Movement is at the heart of our work—on the streets and in people’s minds—generated by unforeseen situations and inspired by design. Even in “traditional building commissions,” such as skate park planning, we are committed to involving people, showing them new paths, recognizing social structures, and, if necessary, changing them so that we and others can build upon them. We ourselves come from a scene shaped by DIY culture and believe that “know-how”—that is, “knowledge about”—may be acquired in schools and universities; but “know-how”—that is, the “how-to”—grows exclusively through doing. This is why participation, co-creation, and co-production play a major role in many of our projects. And because they can foster a sense of identity and responsibility. Responsibility and taking responsibility are key values in our work.

How We Work

We work as partners and as equals—especially with our clients. We do not view any of the services in our portfolio as a mere “service.” Any form of transformation is always a collaborative effort that cannot simply be ordered from anyone or anywhere. We support serious commitments with everything we have, far beyond the usual minimum. We take the time to determine what is actually needed and strive to incorporate as many perspectives as possible in order to offer solutions that are not only answers to current questions and problems, but also open up possibilities for different futures.

So if you’re looking for someone to participate on your behalf and according to your ideas, and/or to produce a nice report for your desk drawer, please ask someone else—firms that cater to such needs are generally well known.

If you’re serious about your desire for change and collaboration at all levels, please feel free to get in touch at any time!
