How do I start a legal D.I.Y skatepark? With this question and task in mind, we embarked on a project in Frankfurt a.M., which for us is trend-setting. In our opinion, it is not absolutely necessary for every skate park to be built by a “professional” company. Especially in the case of smaller parks, it can make sense to simply supplement the knowledge that is always available from the local scenes with the absolutely necessary construction knowledge and create a structurally good starting point. This is what happened in Frankfurt:

With the intensive involvement of the local skate scene, we planned a “base park” there as an extension to the existing facility in Heinrich Kraft Park, leaving space for further elements. The construction site was divided into a 1.5m x 1.5m grid with a total of 325 squares and offers space for the base park, infiltration areas and future elements built by the customer.

To ensure that these future elements meet basic safety standards, we have also developed a guideline as part of this project that covers all relevant questions and topics in this field and at the same time leaves enough room for individual design: the Din.I.Y. (to the publication)

In this way, we hope to make a contribution, not only in Frankfurt, to maintaining and strengthening the D.I.Y. culture in the skate scene, which is so fundamentally identity-forming, because we know from our own experience how empowering it is and how much it can also have an effect on other areas and realities of life.
